## Container Loading Calculator: what you need to know

The container loading calculation shows how many containers your total cartons need and how full the last container will be. Instead of paying full freight for a half-empty box, you can adjust the quantity or send the remainder LCL.
**Expert tip:** If the last container is under 70% full, increasing the order to fill it noticeably lowers freight per unit.

## Container Loading Calculator: worked example

Example values: Container type 40' HC, Carton length 60 cm, Carton width 40 cm, Carton height 40 cm, Carton weight 12 kg, Cartons to ship 2,000 pcs. With these values the results are:

| Cartons per container | 600 pcs |

| Containers needed | 4 pcs |

| Utilization of the last container | 33.3 % |

### How to use: Container Loading Calculator

- Enter your own values: Container type, Carton length, Carton width, Carton height, Carton weight, Cartons to ship.

- Results are calculated as you type: Cartons per container, Containers needed, Utilization of the last container.

- Check every step of the calculation in the formulas below.

## How is it calculated?

- **Cartons per container** = min(fit3([Container internal length] × 100; [Container internal width] × 100; [Container internal height] × 100; [Carton length]; [Carton width]; [Carton height]); floor([Container maximum payload] ÷ [Carton weight]))

- **Containers needed** = ceil([Cartons to ship] ÷ [Cartons per container])

- **Utilization of the last container** = ([Cartons to ship] − ([Containers needed] − 1) × [Cartons per container]) ÷ [Cartons per container] × 100
