## Cargo Intake Calculator: worked example

Example values: Summer DWT 58,000 t, Summer draft 13 m, Maximum permitted draft 12.2 m, TPC 58 t/cm, Fuel, fresh water, stores and constant 2,400 t, Hold capacity (grain) 72,000 m³, Cargo stowage factor 1.33 m³/t. With these values the results are:

| DWT at the draft limit | 53,360 t |

| Cargo by weight | 50,960 t |

| Cargo by volume | 54,135 t |

| Cargo intake | 50,960 t |

| Binding limit | Weight / draft |

### How to use: Cargo Intake Calculator

- Enter your own values: Summer DWT, Summer draft, Maximum permitted draft, TPC, Fuel, fresh water, stores and constant, Hold capacity (grain), Cargo stowage factor.

- Results are calculated as you type: DWT at the draft limit, Cargo by weight, Cargo by volume, Cargo intake.

- Check every step of the calculation in the formulas below.

## How is it calculated?

- **DWT at the draft limit** = [Summer DWT] − max(0; [Summer draft] − [Maximum permitted draft]) × 100 × [TPC]

- **Cargo by weight** = [DWT at the draft limit] − [Fuel, fresh water, stores and constant]

- **Cargo by volume** = [Hold capacity (grain)] ÷ [Cargo stowage factor]

- **Cargo intake** = min([Cargo by weight]; [Cargo by volume])

Ship calculations are estimates based on standard formulas. Loading, stability and draft decisions must be based on the ship’s approved documents and loading computer.

FCRSOFT

## FCRSOFT does this for you automatically

You don’t need to do the calculations and checks on this page by hand every day. FCRSOFT derives them all automatically from the records entered in the field.

- DWT, TPC, draft and capacity data are stored on vessel cards.

- Certificate and document expiry dates are tracked, with warnings before they lapse.

- Voyage estimates use vessel data automatically.

## Frequently asked questions

How is Cargo Intake Calculator calculated?
Find the maximum cargo the ship can take and the binding limit from draft restriction, DWT and hold volume. The calculation uses Vessel Hydrostatics Engine: Calculates DWT, displacement, draft, trim, TPC and MCT relationships with standard naval formulas; results must be checked against approved vessel data.

How is Cargo intake found?
Cargo intake = min([Cargo by weight]; [Cargo by volume]). With the example values (Summer DWT 58,000 t, Summer draft 13 m, Maximum permitted draft 12.2 m, TPC 58 t/cm, Fuel, fresh water, stores and constant 2,400 t, Hold capacity (grain) 72,000 m³) the result is 50,960 t.

Worked example: Cargo Intake Calculator
Example values: Summer DWT 58,000 t, Summer draft 13 m, Maximum permitted draft 12.2 m, TPC 58 t/cm, Fuel, fresh water, stores and constant 2,400 t, Hold capacity (grain) 72,000 m³. DWT at the draft limit: 53,360 t; Cargo by weight: 50,960 t; Cargo by volume: 54,135 t; Cargo intake: 50,960 t; Binding limit: Weight / draft.

Is Cargo Intake Calculator free?
Yes. The tool is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser; the data you enter is not stored.

Can FCRSOFT do this calculation automatically?
FCRSOFT stores DWT, TPC and draft data on vessel cards and uses it automatically in voyage estimates. You can try the Fleet & Vessel package in the live demo without installing anything.

Do the results replace official ship calculations?
No. Ship calculations are estimates based on standard formulas. Loading, stability and draft decisions must be based on the ship’s approved documents and loading computer.
