## Calculator

Summer DWT : 58000 t
Average cargo loaded : 50000 t
Laden sea days (per year) : 170 days
Ballast sea days : 90 days
Days in port : 80 days

This calculator runs in your browser; the data you enter is not stored.

## Results

Cargo capacity utilization
86.2 %

Idle days
25
days

Laden ratio
46.6 %

Commercial utilization (sea + port)
93.2 %

**Keep Your Fleet and Vessel Data in One Place**Result: **86.2 %**. FCRSOFT stores DWT, TPC and draft data on vessel cards and uses it automatically in voyage estimates.

## Vessel Utilization: worked example

Example values: Summer DWT 58,000 t, Average cargo loaded 50,000 t, Laden sea days (per year) 170 days, Ballast sea days 90 days, Days in port 80 days. With these values the results are:

| Cargo capacity utilization | 86.2 % |

| Idle days | 25 days |

| Laden ratio | 46.6 % |

| Commercial utilization (sea + port) | 93.2 % |

### How to use: Vessel Utilization

- Enter your own values: Summer DWT, Average cargo loaded, Laden sea days (per year), Ballast sea days, Days in port.

- Results are calculated as you type: Cargo capacity utilization, Idle days, Laden ratio, Commercial utilization (sea + port).

- Check every step of the calculation in the formulas below.

## How is it calculated?

- **Cargo capacity utilization** = [Average cargo loaded] ÷ [Summer DWT] × 100

- **Idle days** = max(0; 365 − [Laden sea days (per year)] − [Ballast sea days] − [Days in port])

- **Laden ratio** = [Laden sea days (per year)] ÷ 365 × 100

- **Commercial utilization (sea + port)** = ([Laden sea days (per year)] + [Ballast sea days] + [Days in port]) ÷ 365 × 100

Ship calculations are estimates based on standard formulas. Loading, stability and draft decisions must be based on the ship’s approved documents and loading computer.

FCRSOFT

## FCRSOFT does this for you automatically

You don’t need to do the calculations and checks on this page by hand every day. FCRSOFT derives them all automatically from the records entered in the field.

- DWT, TPC, draft and capacity data are stored on vessel cards.

- Certificate and document expiry dates are tracked, with warnings before they lapse.

- Voyage estimates use vessel data automatically.

## Frequently asked questions

How is Vessel Utilization calculated?
Calculate cargo capacity utilization and annual time utilization (laden, ballast, port and idle days). The calculation uses Vessel Hydrostatics Engine: Calculates DWT, displacement, draft, trim, TPC and MCT relationships with standard naval formulas; results must be checked against approved vessel data.

How is Cargo capacity utilization found?
Cargo capacity utilization = [Average cargo loaded] ÷ [Summer DWT] × 100. With the example values (Summer DWT 58,000 t, Average cargo loaded 50,000 t, Laden sea days (per year) 170 days, Ballast sea days 90 days, Days in port 80 days) the result is 86.2 %.

How is Laden ratio found?
Laden ratio = [Laden sea days (per year)] ÷ 365 × 100. With the example values (Summer DWT 58,000 t, Average cargo loaded 50,000 t, Laden sea days (per year) 170 days, Ballast sea days 90 days, Days in port 80 days) the result is 46.6 %.

Worked example: Vessel Utilization
Example values: Summer DWT 58,000 t, Average cargo loaded 50,000 t, Laden sea days (per year) 170 days, Ballast sea days 90 days, Days in port 80 days. Cargo capacity utilization: 86.2 %; Idle days: 25 days; Laden ratio: 46.6 %; Commercial utilization (sea + port): 93.2 %.

Is Vessel Utilization free?
Yes. The tool is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser; the data you enter is not stored.

Can FCRSOFT do this calculation automatically?
FCRSOFT stores DWT, TPC and draft data on vessel cards and uses it automatically in voyage estimates. You can try the Fleet & Vessel package in the live demo without installing anything.

Do the results replace official ship calculations?
No. Ship calculations are estimates based on standard formulas. Loading, stability and draft decisions must be based on the ship’s approved documents and loading computer.
