How to Store Fish Feed

Poorly stored feed loses nutritional value, and FCR suffers with it. Storage is a hidden but important part of the feed budget.

Storage conditions

  • Cool and dry: ideally below 25 °C with low humidity.
  • Away from direct sunlight.
  • On pallets, away from walls and floor.
  • Protected against rodents and insects.

FIFO and expiry dates

The first feed in should be the first used. Recording each lot’s receipt and expiry dates lets you spot ageing feed in time.

Plan stock levels

Too little stock means urgent, expensive purchases; too much means the risk of stale feed. Time your orders from daily consumption and lead time.

Lot tracking

Knowing which feed lot went to which cage lets you quickly find affected fish if a quality problem appears.

FCRSOFT

FCRSOFT does this for you automatically

You don’t need to do the calculations and checks on this page by hand every day. FCRSOFT derives them all automatically from the records entered in the field.

  • Feeding records are deducted automatically from the relevant feed lot.
  • An alert in the panel when feed is running low or out.
  • Purchasing needs are suggested from consumption, with fast barcode entry.
